Finding The Right Gift

June is a time of celebration for many. It is a month of graduations for students, and Father’s Day for the dads, grandfathers, and guardians of the world. The one thing that pops up after the graduation parties and Father’s Day dinners have been planned, it is time to think about the gift. Some individuals truly don’t want any gift. Some do. Many like to give gifts as a form of affection and congratulations. But sometimes it can be difficult to find that right gift.

Anytime there is gift giving involved, we at Woodstock want to help you. If your “grad” or dad is a Classic Rock fan, beader, or incense lover, there is something at Woodstock for them. If you have an incense fan, we have an amazing collection of incense from all around the world. We also have wonderfully crafted incense burner bowls, as well as cool boat and coffin burners. If incense isn’t their thing, there is a huge selection of rock band t-shirts, tie dye shirts, dresses, skirts, bags, posters, tapestries, and blankets. We know dresses and skirts don’t really work for dads. Something that does work for grads and dads alike is mugs, pint glasses, shot glasses, and sets of each.

Two things that we carry are just for dads. Unless dad is a grad too. The Grateful Dead “Grateful Dad” shirt is classic. A design that has been around for years, it is a Father’s Day must for so many.

We are happy to announce that there is an item from the “Grateful Dad Collection” that has returned to our shelves. A  few years ago, the “Grateful Dad” items went out of production. The t-shirt went back into production quickly. Unfortunately, the hat did not get the same treatment. Until now. We now have “Grateful Dad” hats in stock. Both items are a simple design. We think that even non-DeadHeads will appreciate it.

We have put together a "Man's Cave" of Rock & Roll merchandise to help for this special day for him in the store. Just a few suggestions from our website. Order online or come in to our hippie store. Gifts for him always contain classic rock t-shirts, hats, mugs, posters and incense. In addition there are can coolers from bands like the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. For his jogging and festivals water bottles with the Back Catalog from Pink Floyd.

Harder to find items include sets of collectable pint glasses and steins to mention a few AC/DC, Bob Marley as well as shot glasses.

Happy Birthday Stevie... From Dr. Seth

Hello, Seth here...May 26th is a bit of an event for myself and even for some of us here at the shop. It is the date on which Our Lady, Stevie Nicks was brought into the world. Her following is more than just a fan base. It is a highly devoted, or as we say "hopelessly enchanted" bunch of "poets, legends, and priests of nothing". Her tribe has a well developed and thought out language, aesthetic, iconography, and culture. We see things through our filters. A scarf on a lamp or a hanky hemline skirt in any setting is instantly noticed. This brings up the point that nobody else can take simple fabric and turn it into a living impressionist painting. The closest thing I can compare it to is the following of the Grateful Dead, but this is on a much more emotional level. Much like The Dead's following, if it has to be explained, you won't understand. A simple twirl or gesture will stop our breath; anyone else will roll their eyes and wonder what just happened.

Bob Dyaln & The Grateful Dead circa 1980's

MAY 24,1941, Robert Zimmerman, better known as Bob Dylan, US folk singer and songwriter was born. Bob released over 40 albums since 1964. He is a major influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones during the 1960's. Bob's biggest hits are 1965's US No.2 single 'Like A Rolling Stone', 1969's UK No.5 single 'Lay Lady Lay', 1964's UK No.1 album 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'. The 2006 album 'Modern Times' entered the US chart at No.1. The Band and The Grateful Dead have performed with Bob Dylan multiple times of his career, creating some of the greatest music. Musicians like Jimi Hendrix and the Dave Matthews Band have covered mutiple Bob Dylan songs over the years. Bob is also a member of The Traveling Wilburys with music legends Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, & Jeff Lyne.

Around the beginning of February, MOM and Seth were interviewed by a gentleman named John Scalon for JerseyMan Magazine. As we were looking over the store's Facebook page today, we see and post by JerseyMan. It was a link to the article. Mr. Scanlon did a great job! His article captured the passion and love that MOM and Seth have for the business, the music, and their customers. There are interesting stories and tidbits in the article. Mom's Nostalgic Moment

Received our allotment of Relix Magazines in our store and it was truly a nostalgic magic moment.  So many of the articles and interviews are very powerful and personal to my life and the era in which we worked to put our store together.  The article “What’s Become of the Betty Boards certainly had me remembering all the fans coming into the store with their tapes to get copies of the Grateful Dead concerts.  We had to make a data base so that everyone could pick the shows they wanted us to put on tape for them.  In turn they would trade with other fans and increase their library of music.  How different it is today!  However, we still have our tape library and offer anyone free dubbing of anything that we have.  Some of the old timers have brought their tapes in for us to offer FREE  to anyone.   There was always some excitement when new tapes came in from the tapers sections and many of course from the “Betty Boards” found their way back  to us. 

When It Snows, It Snows

In July, Monstro started to shed his coat, and I knew and stated to anyone who would listen, it would be a cold, cold winter. It has been said; animal can tell and forecast the weather. I thought it was just bunk. I was wrong. Woodstock has now closed for snow on three occasions this season, and it looks like we will close again on Wednesday. Monstro & Mugsy are not happy to be alone! We don’t close to just have a snow day. I look out for my staff. If I don’t want to be on the road because of hazardous conditions, I don’t want them on the road.

 Guess who is the only one having fun in the snow...

We are happy that the weather held for our special events. Everyone had a great time-especially me- at the drum circle and wire wrap class. I am looking forward to the Valentine’s Day drum circle. The wire wrap class was very successful. Everyone got to go home with a finished piece of jewelry. They can take pride in wearing it because they made it. The next class is Saturday, March 22, from 1-4pm. We will learn to incorporate weaving into the design. It will be a lot of fine. I enjoy seeing everyone work hard at some they make for themselves and others. You can really see the love.

That is some wonderful work.
